Sthala Puranam

A pious Brahmin, Eeranki Prakasa Rao, and the local ruler both dreamed that Vishnu wanted his idol installed on Ratnagiri hill. They told the villagers, and the villagers found the idol shining in the sun under a krishna kutaja tree. They carried it to the hilltop.

The Sthala Purana adds that Ratnakara, son of Mount Meru and Menaka, did penance. Vishnu appeared on the hill as Satyanarayana Swamy as his reward.

Speciality

  • Satyanarayana Vratham is performed here for health, wealth and peace. Ekadashi is considered especially good, but it is done on other days too.
  • The temple was consecrated in 1891. The stone temple was rebuilt in 1933–34.
  • A yearly Giripradakshinam (walk around the hill) is held on Karthika Purnima.
