The nine temples are praised by the Alwars and are linked with the nine planets. The Wikipedia page does not give a separate legend for each temple, so only the list is given here.

Garuda Sevai: in the month of Vaikasi (May–June), idols from the nine temples are brought to Alwarthirunagari. An idol of Nammalvar is carried in a palanquin to each of the nine temples through the paddy fields, and the pasurams of each temple are chanted there.

By trainTirunelveli Junction, Srivaikuntam and Nanguneri area stations; check local trains.
By roadThe temples are spread over villages near Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi. Hiring a taxi for one day is the easy way to cover all nine.

  • Timings, ticket rules and dress codes change. Check the temple's own notice or website before you travel.
  • Book darshan, rooms and special poojas only at the official counter or website, not through agents.
  • Plan one full day with a local taxi or a guide. Ask at Alwarthirunagari for the usual order of visit.
  • Garuda Sevai in Vaikasi is the best time but is very crowded.
